Professional 8-inch 70V-100V in-ceiling loudspeaker

Origin Acoustics PC80W

The Origin Acoustics PC80W is a professional-grade 8-inch 2-way in-ceiling loudspeaker designed for commercial distributed-audio installations. Part of the Origin PRO Professional Collection, it combines audiophile-quality sound with robust integrator-friendly construction, making it a strong fit for restaurants, retail spaces, corporate environments, houses of worship, and hospitality venues. The PC80W operates on 70V and 100V systems and delivers 112dB maximum SPL — providing the headroom needed even in large or noisy commercial spaces. The white finish includes both round and square low-profile paintable grilles, keeping the ceiling appearance clean and unobtrusive.

Pivoting DPSD Tweeter for Precision Aim

Pivoting DPSD Tweeter for Precision Aim

The PC80W features a 1-inch Silk Dual Plane Stabilized Diaphragm (DPSD) tweeter mounted on Origin's patented Multi-Motion Pivot (MMP) mechanism. Unlike fixed tweeters, this allows the high-frequency driver to be physically aimed toward the listening area after installation — independent of where the speaker must be cut into the ceiling. In a restaurant or retail space where seating is asymmetrically placed, or in a room where the best ceiling cut-in position is not directly overhead of the audience, this makes it possible to maintain even, high-quality treble coverage without compromising on placement. The result for the end listener is noticeably more natural, focused sound rather than the off-axis rolloff common with fixed-tweeter designs.

Front-Accessible 70V-100V Transformer Taps

Front-Accessible 70V-100V Transformer Taps

The PC80W includes a premium nearly-transparent transformer with front-facing tap switches accessible from the front of the speaker — no need to reach behind the can or remove the speaker from the ceiling to change power settings. Taps are available at 60W, 30W, 15W, and 7.5W for 70V systems, and 60W, 30W, and 15W for 100V systems, providing fine-grained volume control at each speaker position in a distributed zone. This is especially practical in large installs with many speakers where on-site level balancing is required during commissioning. Combined with the euro-block wiring connections, the overall installation and commissioning workflow is faster and neater than with competing designs.

112dB peak. 100° coverage. Zero compromises.

UL 1480A and UL 2043 Plenum Certification

UL 1480A and UL 2043 Plenum Certification

The PC80W carries UL 1480A certification for commercial and professional speaker use, as well as UL 2043 certification — the fire test standard specifically for products installed above suspended ceilings and in air-handling (plenum) spaces. In most commercial construction in the US, building codes require plenum-rated equipment above drop ceilings. Without UL 2043, a speaker may be rejected by the local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) during inspection, forcing costly remediation. The PC80W eliminates this risk, making it compliant by design for the commercial environments where it will most often be deployed: offices, hotels, retail stores, and similar spaces with suspended ceiling systems.

Heavy-Duty Installation Hardware for Challenging Environments

Heavy-Duty Installation Hardware for Challenging Environments

Commercial installations frequently encounter structural challenges: hard ceilings, limited above-ceiling clearance, conduit runs, and awkward access. The PC80W addresses this directly with an integrated conduit lock, heavy-duty dog-ear mounting clips, and euro-block (phoenix connector) wiring terminals. The conduit lock secures wiring conduit directly at the speaker backcan, which simplifies compliant wiring in conduit-required commercial environments. The dog-ear clips grip a wide range of ceiling thicknesses securely. The zinc-plated metal can provides rigidity and fire resistance. Together, these features reduce on-site problem-solving and callback risk — and the speaker simply stays put once installed, even in vibrating or high-traffic areas.

Low-Profile Paintable Grilles in Round and Square

Low-Profile Paintable Grilles in Round and Square

Both a white round grille and a white square grille are included in the box with the PC80W. Both are low-profile and paintable, so they can be finished to match any ceiling colour without any additional hardware purchase. The square option suits grid-tile ceiling systems where a round grille would look out of place, while the round version is the natural choice for drywall ceilings. This dual-grille inclusion means the integrator does not have to stock separate grille SKUs per project type, and the end customer gets a finished look that blends into the ceiling architecture rather than calling attention to itself. For premium venues where aesthetics matter as much as acoustics, this flexibility is a genuine advantage.
