Professional 8" commercial in-ceiling loudspeaker

Origin Acoustics PC80B

The Origin Acoustics PC80B is part of the Origin PRO Professional Collection, designed for integrators who need audiophile-grade sound quality in demanding commercial environments. Built around an 8-inch IMPP woofer paired with a pivoting 1-inch Silk DSPD™ Multi-Motion Pivot™ tweeter, this in-ceiling loudspeaker delivers 112dB maximum SPL and full 70V-100V distributed audio compatibility. It is equally suited to restaurants, retail spaces, corporate lobbies, houses of worship, and hospitality venues where both performance and installation reliability are non-negotiable. Paintable low-profile grilles in round and square formats are included, allowing the speaker to blend seamlessly into any ceiling finish.

Pivoting DSPD Tweeter for Off-Axis Installs

Pivoting DSPD Tweeter for Off-Axis Installs

The 1-inch Silk Dual Plane Stabilized Diaphragm (DSPD) tweeter is mounted on Origin's patented Multi-Motion Pivot (MMP) assembly, allowing it to be physically redirected after the speaker is installed. In practice this means the high-frequency dispersion can be aimed towards the listening zone even when the speaker cannot be positioned directly above it — a common challenge in commercial builds where ceiling structure dictates placement. For retail aisles, angled counters, or raked seating areas, this avoids the dead spots and harshness that come from off-axis tweeter response, resulting in consistently clear, natural sound across the room.

Front-Accessible 70-100V Tap Switch

Front-Accessible 70-100V Tap Switch

The rotary transformer tap switch is located on the front face of the speaker, accessible without removing the enclosure from the ceiling. The PC80B supports 70V taps at 60W, 30W, 15W and 7.5W, and 100V taps at 60W, 30W and 15W, plus a direct 6-ohm bypass mode. This matters practically: tap settings often need to be balanced across a zone after all speakers are mounted, and front access makes that a one-person job with no tools in the ceiling cavity. It also supports both North American (70V) and European and international (100V) distributed audio systems with the same hardware, reducing the number of SKUs an integrator needs to stock.

112dB SPL. 70-100V ready. One speaker, any venue.

Commercial-Grade Mechanical Mounting System

Commercial-Grade Mechanical Mounting System

The PC80B includes heavy-duty resin dog-ear clamps, an integrated conduit lock, strain relief fitting, and a dedicated safety bracket for seismic restraint. The Euroblock (Phoenix) connector provides a secure, vibration-resistant termination that stays tight over years of operation — avoiding the intermittent failures that plague push-in terminals in high-traffic commercial spaces. For drop ceiling installations, an optional tile bridge kit (PC80B-TB) supports the speaker in suspended acoustic tile grids without needing a separate structural box. Each detail of the mechanical design is aimed at reducing revisit calls after handover.

UL 1480A and UL 2043 Plenum Certification

UL 1480A and UL 2043 Plenum Certification

The PC80B holds UL 1480A certification for commercial and professional speaker use and UL 2043 certification for products installed in air-handling (plenum) spaces above suspended ceilings. These two certifications together are typically the threshold required by building inspectors and fire marshals before a speaker installation will pass sign-off on commercial projects in the US. The additional NFPA 70 and NFPA 90A compliance further covers electrical safety and HVAC installation code requirements. Specifying an uncertified speaker in a plenum space creates both a code violation and a liability issue; the PC80B eliminates that risk entirely.

Deep Bass Extension for a Ceiling Loudspeaker

Deep Bass Extension for a Ceiling Loudspeaker

The bass-enhancing woofer port design and 8-inch IMPP (Injection-Moulded Polypropylene) cone push the low-frequency response down to 41Hz (-10dB) and 60Hz (-3dB) — unusually deep for an in-ceiling speaker of this size. In commercial applications where a separate subwoofer is not practical or in budget, this means the PC80B can deliver convincing music reproduction and speech intelligibility without sounding thin or hollow. Restaurants, hotel lobbies and retail spaces benefit from a full-range listening experience using a single speaker type throughout the zone.
