Origin Acoustics PS50B

The Origin Acoustics PS50B is a professional 2-way surface mount loudspeaker engineered for commercial sound reinforcement environments such as restaurants, retail spaces, corporate lobbies, hospitality venues, and transportation hubs. Purpose-built for integrators, it combines audiophile-grade drivers with a contractor-friendly feature set: a pivoting Weather Resistant POM mount lets the installer aim the speaker precisely toward the listening area on both X and Y axes, while a front-accessible rotary tap switch covers 70V, 100V, and 8-ohm operation from a single unit. IPX4 splash resistance and UL 1480A certification make it suitable for damp and demanding locations, and the compact low-profile black enclosure blends discreetly into virtually any setting.

Front-Accessible 70V-100V-8Ω Tap Switch

A rotary impedance selector on the front face of the speaker lets the installer choose between 70V (30W, 15W, 7.5W, 3.75W), 100V (30W, 15W, 7.5W) and 8-ohm operation without rewiring. This single-unit flexibility is decisive for jobs where voltage standards differ — for example, a US 70V backbone feeding a European 100V zone, or a small room tapped direct at 8 ohm off a local amplifier. The front-mounted position means adjustments can be made after cabinet installation, reducing re-work and making commissioning faster. Note: the 8Ω bypass setting must never be selected when the amplifier output is live on 70V or 100V — the transformer will be damaged. The selector is clearly marked, which reduces the risk of wiring errors during installation.

X and Y-Axis Pivoting POM Mount

The Weather Resistant POM (polyoxymethylene) bracket gives the PS50B full two-axis pivot, letting the installer swing the cabinet horizontally and tilt it vertically after it is fixed to the wall. In practice this means the optimal aim point — toward seated listeners in a restaurant, for instance, or toward the queue line in a retail checkout — can be fine-tuned on site without moving the mounting point. POM is a dense engineering-grade plastic that resists moisture, UV and temperature variation, so the bracket performs reliably in outdoor terraces, pool areas, and other damp-exposure locations where a powder-coated steel bracket would eventually corrode. The 100° × 50° nominal coverage pattern (wide horizontal, narrower vertical) pairs well with this adjustability: aim horizontally first to sweep the seating zone, then tilt vertically to keep level off the floor.

Wide 100° Horizontal Dispersion Pattern

The PS50B's nominal coverage angle of 100° horizontal and 50° vertical is broader than many competing 5-inch surface mount speakers, which typically measure around 80°–90° horizontally. This wider horizontal spread means fewer speakers are needed to achieve consistent direct-field coverage in corridors, open dining areas, or retail floors — directly reducing hardware cost and installation time. The narrower 50° vertical pattern helps keep energy focused on the listening plane and away from the ceiling, reducing unwanted reflections that degrade speech intelligibility in reverberant rooms.
