Premium 10-inch in-ceiling speaker, Celestial Collection

Origin Acoustics BOC106

The Origin Acoustics BOC106 is a flagship 10-inch, 3-way in-ceiling speaker from the Celestial Collection — a co-engineered collaboration between Origin Acoustics and Bang & Olufsen. Designed for demanding residential installations such as dedicated home theaters, luxury living rooms, and high-moisture environments like indoor pools, saunas, and yacht cabins, the BOC106 delivers audiophile-grade performance while remaining completely hidden in the ceiling. It targets custom integrators who need a speaker that can satisfy both discerning listeners and interior designers, combining deep bass extension down to 28 Hz with a refined, nearly invisible profile when the included Premium Grille is fitted. An optional billet-aluminum Advanced Grille, CNC-machined and anodized at Bang & Olufsen's Struer facility, is available for clients who want their ceiling speaker to be a design statement in its own right.

IPX6 Moisture Rating for Wet Locations

IPX6 Moisture Rating for Wet Locations

The BOC106 carries an IPX6 moisture protection rating, meaning it is certified to withstand powerful water jets from any direction. In practice, this opens installation opportunities well beyond the typical dry living room: bathrooms, steam rooms, saunas, indoor swimming pool areas, yachts and cruise ships are all documented use cases. The rating is backed by Origin Acoustics' proprietary Weather-X coating process, which uses stainless steel hardware and a treated grille surface that the manufacturer claims prevents rust for over 10 years. For integrators, this is a decisive specification when specifying speakers in wet or high-humidity zones — no additional waterproofing enclosure is required, and the same premium speaker can be used throughout an entire property regardless of room function. Clients in coastal or tropical climates, or those building luxury wellness spaces, get the same audio performance without compromise.

Zip-Cliq Tool-less Bayonet Mounting

Zip-Cliq Tool-less Bayonet Mounting

Origin Acoustics' patented Zip-Cliq system replaces conventional dog-ear clamps with a precision bayonet ring and a quarter-turn twist-to-lock mechanism. The speaker drops into the pre-installed ring and locks with a 15-degree clockwise rotation — no screwdriver or drill needed at the speaker face. A metal lock tab then secures the fit, and the magnetic grille snaps into place without any visible fixings. The critical practical advantage: the bayonet ring is interchangeable across Origin Acoustics' speaker families. An integrator who previously installed Origin's Director D108 rings can drop in a BOC106 without cutting new holes. For retrofit projects or speaker upgrades, this eliminates plaster repair work and significantly reduces on-site labour time. Removal is equally clean — open the lock tab, twist counterclockwise, and the speaker releases without tools.

10-inch depth, full-range sound, virtually invisible.

3-Way Tri-Linear Driver Configuration

3-Way Tri-Linear Driver Configuration

Rather than the 2-way layout used in the majority of in-ceiling speakers, the BOC106 uses three dedicated drivers arranged in a coaxial stack: a 10-inch glass fiber cone woofer, a 4-inch glass fiber inverted-dome midrange, and a 1-inch silk DPSD tweeter. Dividing the frequency spectrum into three narrower bands allows each driver to operate well within its optimal range, minimising intermodulation distortion and improving clarity across the full 28 Hz–20 kHz bandwidth. The result is a speaker that handles both low-frequency film effects (rated to 28 Hz) and the fine textural detail of voice and instruments without compromise. For home theater applications, this makes the BOC106 capable of serving as a primary left-right or even centre channel speaker rather than being limited to a surround fill role.

Aimable Midrange and Tweeter Pod

Aimable Midrange and Tweeter Pod

The midrange and tweeter assembly can be independently pivoted up to 18 degrees off-axis after installation. This allows the installer to direct the most directional portion of the speaker's frequency range precisely toward the primary listening position — a meaningful advantage in asymmetric rooms where the speaker cannot be placed directly above the seating area. For Dolby Atmos height-channel applications, the ability to angle the high-frequency energy downward toward listeners, rather than have it radiate straight down, significantly improves the sense of overhead immersion. Adjustment is done by hand with gentle thumb pressure on the driver rim — no tools required. Three-position bass and treble trim switches are also accessible from below after installation, so acoustic calibration can be completed without ceiling access.

Low Mounting Depth for Tight Ceiling Voids

Low Mounting Depth for Tight Ceiling Voids

Despite housing a 10-inch woofer — a driver size that typically demands significant depth — the BOC106 requires only 6.22 inches (158 mm) of ceiling void. This is deliberately reduced from the 7.38 inches needed by the closely related Origin Director D108, specifically to expand installation viability in residential construction where joist cavities are often shallow or partially occupied by insulation and services. The cutout diameter of 10.375 inches is also compact relative to the driver size. The combination means integrators can specify this speaker confidently in upper-floor ceilings, concrete-and-batten constructions, or retrofit scenarios where clearance is limited — without downgrading to a smaller woofer and accepting reduced bass output.

Tonearm Tweeter and X-Wave Woofer Surround

Tonearm Tweeter and X-Wave Woofer Surround

Two proprietary technologies address distortion at opposite ends of the frequency range. The Tonearm tweeter pins the 1-inch silk dome at its centre with a small stabilising bar, increasing the structural rigidity of the dome so it can play louder with more uniform dispersion — particularly useful when the speaker is used at higher SPLs in large rooms or home theater applications. The X-Wave woofer surround is an engineered suspension element that absorbs resonant frequencies travelling up and down the 10-inch glass fiber cone, terminating unwanted standing waves before they colour the output. Together, these reduce harmonic distortion audibly — the kind of contribution that is noticed not as a specific feature but as a cleanliness and ease in the sound at high listening levels.
