Premium 8-inch three-way architectural in-ceiling speaker

Origin Acoustics BOC86

The Origin Acoustics BOC86 is the flagship model of the Celestial 80 Series — a co-engineered collaboration between Origin Acoustics and Bang & Olufsen that blends world-class acoustics with the understated luxury of Bang & Olufsen's design philosophy. As the only three-way speaker in the BOC80 range, it adds a dedicated 4-inch pivoting glass fiber midrange driver alongside the 8-inch woofer and 1-inch silk tweeter, delivering an extended frequency response down to 34 Hz and an exceptionally natural, room-filling sound. Designed for residential home theater, multi-room audio, and high-performance whole-home installations, the BOC86 is equally at home as a front, surround, or stereo speaker. Its tool-less mounting system and elegant magnetic aluminum grille make it a preferred choice for integrators who demand both sonic excellence and a clean finish.

Exclusive Three-Way Architecture

Exclusive Three-Way Architecture

The BOC86 is the only model in the Celestial 80 Series with a dedicated 4-inch glass fiber midrange driver — a distinction that matters across the full audible spectrum. In a two-way design, the woofer must handle both low and mid frequencies, which forces compromises in cone material, crossover points, and dispersion. By handing the critical 200 Hz–4 kHz vocal and instrumental range to a separate midrange dome, the BOC86 allows the woofer to focus purely on bass and the tweeter on high-frequency detail. The result is a speaker with genuinely natural vocal reproduction, accurate imaging, and a frequency response starting at 34 Hz — four full hertz lower than the two-way siblings. For installations in living rooms, home cinema, or open-plan spaces where music and film dialogue quality matter, this three-way architecture is the deciding argument for specifying the BOC86 over the BOC82.

Patented Multi-Motion Pivoting (BOC86 Exclusive)

Patented Multi-Motion Pivoting (BOC86 Exclusive)

Multi-Motion technology is Origin Acoustics' patented system that allows both the tweeter and the midrange driver — a feature exclusive to the BOC86 within this series — to pivot independently after installation. In practice, this means the installer can physically aim both high- and mid-frequency drivers towards the primary listening position, regardless of where in the ceiling the speaker had to be placed due to structural constraints. This is particularly valuable in rooms with off-center seating, raked ceilings, or open-plan layouts where perfect speaker placement is rarely achievable. Rear surround speakers can alternatively be aimed towards a wall for a more enveloping, diffuse soundstage. The end result is that clients hear exactly the sound the designer intended, not a compromised version dictated by ceiling joist positions.

Three ways. One ceiling. Pure Bang & Olufsen luxury.

Tonearm Tweeter with DPSD Technology

Tonearm Tweeter with DPSD Technology

The 1-inch silk tweeter in the BOC86 uses two patented Origin Acoustics technologies working in combination. The Tonearm design pins the tweeter centrally on a rigid arm, increasing mechanical stability so it can play louder with lower distortion and wider dispersion than a conventionally mounted dome. The Dual Plane Stabilized Diaphragm (DPSD) is a suspension system that attaches at both the voice coil and the dome's peak, preventing the high-frequency rocking and pistonic breakup that causes harshness at elevated listening levels. Together, these allow the tweeter to be crossed over at a lower frequency, which reduces the demand on the midrange and woofer at their upper limits. Clients experience consistently clean, open high-frequency reproduction even at higher volumes — a particularly relevant benefit in larger rooms or home cinema applications.

X-Wave Woofer Surround for Low Distortion Bass

X-Wave Woofer Surround for Low Distortion Bass

The 8-inch glass fiber woofer in the BOC86 is fitted with Origin Acoustics' proprietary X-Wave surround — a suspension element specifically designed to absorb the unwanted resonant frequencies that would otherwise reflect back and forth along the woofer cone. These reflections generate harmonic distortion and blur the bass response, particularly at higher excursion levels. By damping these standing waves at the cone's edge, the X-Wave surround keeps the woofer moving in a controlled, linear path throughout its operating range. For the end user, this translates to tighter, more articulate bass — accurately reproduced kick drums, upright bass, and low-frequency film effects — without the bloom or one-note quality that compromised cone surrounds can introduce. It also contributes to the speaker's unusually deep 34 Hz extension for an in-ceiling format.

Zip-Cliq Tool-Less Mounting System

Zip-Cliq Tool-Less Mounting System

The Zip-Cliq bayonet mounting system is engineered for fast, repeatable, and damage-free installation across a wide range of ceiling materials and constructions. The bayonet ring is inserted into the cut-out, where spring-loaded clips grip the ceiling material from behind without requiring screws or additional hardware. The speaker itself fits into the ring and locks with a 15-degree clockwise twist, confirmed by an alignment indicator. A metal lock tab then secures the assembly to prevent accidental dislodging. Importantly, the speaker can be cleanly removed and reinstalled — useful during commissioning, service visits, or when a client requests repositioning after the ceiling is finished. This combination of speed and reversibility reduces installation time and protects the client's ceiling from repair work caused by conventional mounting systems.

Bang & Olufsen Aesthetic: Magnetic Aluminium Grille

Bang & Olufsen Aesthetic: Magnetic Aluminium Grille

The visible grille of the BOC86 is made from polished aluminium and white steel, consistent with Bang & Olufsen's longstanding design philosophy of understated luxury. It attaches magnetically — no visible fixings, no clips to break, no paint to chip — and can be removed and refitted cleanly during decoration or service without tools. For residential clients who are equally sensitive to interior aesthetics as to audio performance, the grille is a tangible proof-point that premium sound does not require a visually dominant speaker. The grille's finish is also paint-ready, allowing it to be matched to ceiling colour if the client prefers complete invisibility over the polished aluminium look. This dual identity — statement piece or invisible installation — broadens the BOC86's appeal across different interior design briefs.
