Stereo or Bipole Surround — One Location

The D63DT/SUR carries two independently driven tweeters mounted at opposing angles alongside a single 6.5" woofer. A physical switch on the speaker body toggles between stereo mode — where both channels are reproduced from a single ceiling point — and bipole surround mode, where the two tweeters radiate in phase in opposite directions to create wide, enveloping surround coverage. This dual-mode capability is decisive in rooms where running a traditional four- or six-speaker surround layout is impractical: open-plan areas with limited ceiling access, retrofits in existing homes, or single-drop installations above a seating area. The end user gains genuine stereo width for music and convincing rear-channel immersion for film, all from one cut in the ceiling.

X-Wave Woofer Surround — Controlled Bass, Less Distortion

At high excursion levels, a conventional woofer surround (the flexible ring connecting cone to basket) reflects energy back through the cone, creating unwanted resonances that blur the bass and midrange. Origin Acoustics' proprietary X-Wave surround is profiled to progressively absorb that reflected energy rather than bounce it, keeping the cone moving cleanly even at the limits of its travel. Compression-Molded Woofer Basket — Acoustically Neutral Structure

The woofer basket — the rigid frame holding the cone, voice coil and surround — is compression-molded rather than stamped from sheet metal. Compression molding allows Origin to shape a basket that is simultaneously stiffer (reducing flex-induced vibration) and acoustically inert (not adding its own coloration to the sound). The practical result is a lower noise floor from the mechanical assembly itself, so subtle detail in music — ambience, instrument decay, spatial cues — comes through more clearly. This matters most in quiet-listening environments like dedicated listening rooms or bedrooms, and it is a differentiator that justifies the Director series' positioning above entry-level architectural speakers.

Tool-Less Spring-Clip Mounting System

The Director series uses spring-loaded retention clips that engage automatically as the speaker is pressed into the cutout — no screwdriver required once the speaker is positioned. Multiple contact points distribute the load more evenly around the cutout edge than conventional dog-leg brackets, which helps prevent ceiling material from cracking or deforming over time and reduces vibration transfer from the speaker body into the ceiling structure. The 8.75" cutout diameter and 3.99" mounting depth are compatible with standard timber-joist and light steel-frame ceiling cavities.

Paintable Magnetic Micro-Bezel Grille

The grille attaches and detaches magnetically with no visible fixings, which means it can be removed for painting to match any ceiling colour and re-seated perfectly without screw holes or clip marks. The perforated grille covers the entire speaker opening and the micro-bezel profile keeps the visible frame as small as possible — ideal for high-specification residential projects where interior designers require flush, near-invisible speaker placement.
