The surround uses Origin's X-Wave technology: instead of a conventional surround that abruptly stops cone movement at its limit of travel, the X-Wave design progressively absorbs the impact, damping the ripple waves that would otherwise travel back up the cone and introduce distortion. Together these two technologies produce a woofer that remains clean and controlled at high output levels — important in larger rooms or where the speaker is driven hard by a powerful amplifier.
