Flagship marine-grade 3-way in-ceiling loudspeaker
Origin Acoustics D105EX
The Origin Acoustics D105EX is the flagship 3-way in-ceiling loudspeaker from the Explorer Collection — a range purpose-built for demanding marine environments such as yachts, superyachts, and waterfront properties. It delivers audiophile-grade sound reproduction with a 10" IMG woofer that fits a traditional 8" ceiling cutout, making it the go-to choice where large-driver bass performance must coexist with tight ceiling openings. An IPX6-rated weatherproof construction, all-stainless-steel hardware, and individually coated crossover components ensure long-term reliability in saltwater air, extreme humidity, and temperature swings. The D105EX is equally at home in high-end residential installations requiring the ultimate in discrete, high-fidelity in-ceiling audio.

10" Woofer in an 8" Cutout
The D105EX is engineered around a core constraint common in retrofit and marine installs: ceiling cutout diameter. Its 10" IMG (Injection-Moulded Graphite) woofer is packaged to fit a standard 264 mm (10.375") cutout — the same opening used for conventional 8" in-ceiling speakers. This is a direct practical benefit: integrators can retrofit the D105EX into existing ceiling openings without cutting larger holes or making good, saving time and avoiding damage to expensive joinery or headlining. For the end user it means noticeably more low-frequency extension and dynamic impact — the woofer moves significantly more air than any true 8" driver could — without any visual compromise in the ceiling.

IPX6 Marine-Grade Protection
Every component of the D105EX is treated with a proprietary weatherproof coating, from the electro-mechanical driver elements through to the crossover network. The speaker carries an IPX6 rating, meaning it withstands powerful water jets from any direction — which translates to real-world resilience against wave spray, deck wash-down, and heavy rain. All fasteners and speaker terminals are stainless steel to prevent the galvanic corrosion that destroys ordinary speakers in saltwater environments. Additional gaskets create a maritime weatherproof seal at the mounting surface. This level of protection means the speakers genuinely last in environments that would rapidly destroy standard architectural products, reducing warranty claims and callbacks for the installer.

Tri-Linear Pivoting Midrange and DPSD Tweeter
The D105EX uses a Tri-Linear® 3-way configuration: a 4" IMG midrange and a 3/4" Silk DPSD™ (Dual-Point Suspension Dome) tweeter are both mounted on Origin's patented Multi-Motion Pivot system. This means both the tweeter and midrange can be aimed independently of the woofer after the speaker is installed — a critical advantage in marine cabins, saloons, and angled deck areas where listeners are rarely directly below the speaker. The DPSD tweeter's unique suspension, attached at both the voice-coil and dome peak, allows a lower crossover point than a conventional dome, improving dispersion and reducing distortion in the critical 1–5 kHz presence region. The result is consistently clear, well-focused sound even when the listening position is offset by a significant angle.

Tool-Less Mounting with Ringlock Technology
Origin's tool-less dog-ear mounting system means the D105EX can be secured into a ceiling without a single separate tool — the mounting dogs deploy and lock with hand pressure. The additional Ringlock technology reinforces the crossover's physical connection inside the cabinet, reducing vibration-induced failure in the high-vibration environment of a moving vessel. For integrators working in confined bilge-adjacent spaces or overhead on a ladder, the ability to complete the physical installation one-handed speeds up the job meaningfully. Sensitivity at 92 dB (1 W/1 m) also means the speakers reach satisfying volume levels with modest amplifier power, giving more headroom for DSP or zone distribution over long cable runs.
