Tri-Linear Configuration — More Bass, Less Space

The D85's Tri-Linear Configuration (TLC) stacks three drivers — an 8" IMG woofer, a 4" IMG midrange, and a 3/4" DPSD silk tweeter — in a compact chassis engineered to fit inside the same 8 3/4" (222mm) ceiling cutout required by most competing 6-inch speakers. In practice this means integrators can offer their clients full-range, 8-inch bass extension and a 36Hz–20kHz frequency response without enlarging ceiling holes or compromising structural integrity. Pivoting FocalPoint Mid-Tweeter Module

The D85's mid and tweeter assembly pivots independently of the woofer, letting installers redirect the critical 700Hz–20kHz frequencies toward any listening position after the speaker is flush-mounted. Patented DPSD Silk Tweeter Technology

The Dual Plane Stabilized Diaphragm (DPSD™) tweeter is an Origin Acoustics patent. Unlike conventional dome tweeters, the DPSD suspension attaches at both the voice-coil and the peak of the dome, which allows the driver to be crossed over at a significantly lower frequency than standard designs. The outcome is wider high-frequency dispersion, reduced distortion at higher output levels, and more extended, natural-sounding treble. For installers, this means the D85 holds together tonally even when wall angles or furniture layout place listeners off the central axis — and for end users it translates to consistent clarity whether they are seated at the prime listening position or moving around the room.

X-Wave Woofer Surround — Lower Distortion at High Levels

At higher listening levels, woofer cones hit their excursion limits and unwanted resonance waves travel back up the cone, causing audible harmonic distortion. Origin's X-Wave surround is engineered to progressively absorb these reflected waves rather than let them propagate. The design also maximises effective cone area by narrowing the surround itself, squeezing more output from the same physical driver diameter. Tool-Less Mounting with Spring-Loaded Clips

The Director Collection's mounting system replaces traditional 'dog-leg' bracket screws with a tool-less, spring-loaded clip mechanism that locks with multiple contact points around the ceiling cutout. Weight is distributed more evenly than screw-based dogs, reducing micro-vibration transfer to the ceiling panel — which matters acoustically as well as structurally. For integrators, the system cuts per-speaker installation time significantly and allows the grille (magnetically attached) to be removed and refitted without tools. IPX6 Weatherproof Rating

The D85 includes a switchable treble EQ trim on the driver chassis.
