IP56-rated 1,500 nits outdoor signage display
LG 22XE1J-B
The LG 22XE1J-B is a 21.5-inch Full HD outdoor digital signage display engineered for unattended, year-round deployment in exposed environments. Rated IP56 against dust and water ingress, and tested across an operating temperature range of -30°C to 50°C, it is equally at home on a building facade, a forecourt, or a transit node. Its 1,500 nit IPS panel cuts through direct sunlight while the integrated webOS 4.1 platform eliminates the need for an external media player — making it a self-contained signage solution for SMBs and large enterprises alike. Built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a gyroscopic sensor round out a feature set aimed at flexible, low-maintenance outdoor installations.

1,500 Nits for Outdoor Readability
The 22XE1J-B delivers 1,500 nits of brightness through its IPS (AHVA) panel, measured with the protective glass in place. At this light output the display remains legible even when competing directly with summer sunlight — a threshold that most indoor-rated displays cannot approach. The anti-glare surface with 25% haze further reduces specular reflections, and a Quarter Wave Plate (QWP) bonded to the glass maintains contrast for viewers wearing polarized sunglasses, which is a common but often overlooked scenario at petrol stations, beach-side cafés, or ski resort ticket counters. A built-in ambient light sensor adjusts brightness automatically: maximum output in bright conditions, reduced output after dark — saving energy without manual intervention.

IP56 Full-Enclosure Weather Protection
IP56 certifies complete protection against dust ingress (6) and powerful water jets from any direction (5), covering typical outdoor hazards: pressure washing during cleaning, driven rain, dusty construction zones, and sea-salt spray in coastal installations. Beyond the IP rating, the circuit and power boards carry a conformal coating — thin protective films that resist humidity, iron dust, and salt moisture at the PCB level. This multi-layer approach means the display continues operating reliably long after initial deployment, with fewer corrosion-related failures. For venues such as forecourts, outdoor retail, bus shelters, and sports stadiums, this translates directly into lower maintenance call-outs and a longer usable life.

Wide Temperature Range: -30°C to 50°C
The 22XE1J-B is rated for continuous operation between -30°C and 50°C, and at 5–100% relative humidity. This spans Nordic winters and Middle Eastern summers without requiring external heating or cooling enclosures, which are a common and costly addition for standard commercial displays used outdoors. Fewer ancillary components means simpler installation, a smaller footprint, and one less point of failure. It is particularly relevant for transportation hubs, outdoor kiosks, and drive-through menu boards where the display must start up and perform reliably on the coldest January morning as well as a hot August afternoon.

Standalone webOS 4.1 Built-in Platform
The display runs LG's webOS 4.1 on a Quad Core SoC with 16 GB internal storage, meaning no external media player is required. The embedded CMS handles local content scheduling, group management, and video tag playback (up to four zones, one external HDMI input). Additional capabilities include gapless playback, screen and input rotation, fail-over switching to a backup source, USB plug-and-play, and booting/no-signal logo images. For integrators and operators, this reduces cabling, mounting complexity, and hardware to manage. For end-users it means content can be updated wirelessly via Wi-Fi, with firmware pushed the same way — reducing the need for on-site visits.

Wireless Content Distribution and Beacon Marketing
Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) allow content and firmware updates to be pushed over the air, removing the need to physically access each display. The integrated Beacon function extends this further: using BLE, the display can push promotional coupons, product information, or notifications directly to visitors' smartphones in real time — useful for retail forecourts, stadiums, or any venue where proximity-triggered engagement adds value. This capability is built into the hardware, so there is no additional Beacon hardware to procure or install.

Web-based Remote Monitoring and Control
The built-in Control Manager provides a web-based monitoring interface accessible from any device connected to the network — PC or smartphone. Operators can view real-time and historical status, adjust settings, and control the display remotely, which is critical for outdoor installations where physical access may be inconvenient or costly. For larger deployments, LG SuperSign CMS and SuperSign Control+ compatibility adds centralised content management and scheduling across multiple units. The optional LG ConnectedCare cloud service (purchased separately) adds proactive fault diagnosis and remote-control support for maximum uptime across a fleet.

Portrait and Landscape Operation
The 22XE1J-B supports both landscape and portrait orientations, with hardware-level rotation and software-side input rotation available through the webOS platform. The display can be wall-mounted, hung from a bracket, integrated into a kiosk, or placed on a freestanding stand in either orientation — a practical advantage for installations where the content format or physical space dictates a vertical layout, such as outdoor menu boards, directory signs, or EV charging station screens. The tilt mechanism also allows a face-down angle of up to -15°, useful for overhead or high-wall mounting scenarios.
