The NETGEAR Align Controller GB406 is a purpose-built appliance that consolidates the network services, precision timing and management tools an AV-over-IP deployment relies on, into a single half-width 1U unit. It hosts NETGEAR Engage locally and, with an optional license, gives integrators secure remote access from anywhere. Aimed at broadcast studios, live events, corporate AV, sports arenas, university campuses and high-end residential projects, the GB406 replaces a stack of separate PCs, clocks and service boxes with one hardened platform running Ubuntu with Docker — ready today for NETGEAR applications and open to third-party AV tools as the platform grows.

Runs NETGEAR Engage on Dedicated Hardware
The GB406 is a purpose-built host for NETGEAR Engage rather than a PC or VM the integrator has to build, patch and babysit. Engage handles centralized configuration and monitoring of NETGEAR AV switches, Pro Routers and WiFi 7 access points, and supports offline provisioning so sites can be prepared before shipping to the customer. Up to 5 concurrent local users can work in the browser-based GUI over HTTPS, which suits teams where AV and IT operators share responsibility. Migrating an existing Engage deployment from a PC or VM is a matter of minutes, with sites and device configurations carrying across — no re-commissioning, no lost history.

Secure Remote Access from Anywhere
With the optional Premium License, the full Engage Controller becomes reachable through the NETGEAR Insight cloud portal for up to five concurrent remote users. That means the AV team can leave the rack room — or the building, or the country — and still see, configure and troubleshoot the network in a browser. In practice this turns what used to be a truck-roll for every site visit into a remote session, cuts response times when something goes wrong, and lets service providers layer managed-service contracts on top of installations that would previously have gone dark the moment the installer drove away.

Onboard PTPv2 Grandmaster Clock
The GB406 runs a PTPv2 Grandmaster and Boundary Clock natively, with support for SMPTE ST 2110, ST 2059-2, AES67 and gPTP AVB — up to six PTPv2/gPTP instances in parallel. That removes the external grandmaster clock from the bill of materials and delivers sub-microsecond synchronization across the entire AV-over-IP fabric from one appliance. For broadcast and live-event environments where lip-sync, frame alignment and audio phase depend on rock-solid timing, having the clock, the switch fabric services and the management layer aligned in one hardened unit removes a whole class of interoperability problems between separate timing boxes.

Consolidated Network Services in One Box
NTP, DNS, DHCP and Syslog all run directly on the GB406, so the AV-over-IP deployment no longer needs a separate PC or server for each service. The DHCP engine supports templates, most common DHCP options and active client classification, and Engage can host per-VLAN DHCP servers on the appliance. Centralized Syslog collection over UDP/TCP port 514 gives one place to look when devices misbehave, and the DNS server handles both forward/reverse lookups and zone management. Fewer moving parts means fewer failure points on-site and a cleaner network to hand over to the customer's IT team.

PoE++ Powered with AC Backup
The GB406 draws its main power from a single PoE++ (802.3bt Type 4, 90W) uplink — no dedicated power circuit, no extra PDU outlet, no separate power planning at the rack. A 54V/1.66A local AC adapter is included and can be plugged in alongside the PoE feed for 1+1 seamless power redundancy, so the appliance keeps running through a switch reboot or an AC outage. For install teams this dramatically simplifies pop-up racks at live events and cramped broadcast trucks, and for end customers it protects the timing and management layer from single points of failure without extra UPS engineering.

Half-Width 1U Rack-Ready Design
At 220 mm wide and 43.2 mm high (shallow 1U), two GB406 units fit side-by-side in a single rack space using the included 2-unit pairing kit. Standard 1U brackets and rubber footpads for tabletop use are also in the box. Weighing just 1.7 kg without the adapter, it slots into edge racks, flight cases and residential AV cabinets where a full-depth 1U server simply will not fit. The compact footprint combined with the 32.8 dB@25 °C acoustic level makes it viable for equipment cabinets shared with control rooms or high-end residential spaces where noise is a real concern.

6 Ports: 4× 2.5GbE + 2× 10G SFP+
The GB406 provides four 2.5 GbE copper ports (Intel I226) supporting 100M/1G/2.5G and two 10G SFP+ cages (Intel X710) for 1G/10G fiber or DAC uplinks. Any of the six ports can be assigned to VLANs in untagged (PVID) or tagged (trunk) mode via Network Profiles, and Auto-LAG / Auto-Trunk work with NETGEAR M4250/M4300/M4350/M4500 AV switches for near-zero-touch integration. That gives enough throughput to sit inline in a real AV-over-IP fabric — not just a management port — and enough flexibility to run alongside existing SFP+ backbones without adding media converters.

Open Ubuntu + Docker Platform
Under the hood the GB406 runs Ubuntu with Docker on an Intel Amston Lake octa-core x7809 at 2.4 GHz, 16 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 64 GB internal storage, with a SATA M.2 2242 expansion bay for an SSD up to ~550 MB/s. NETGEAR ships it as an open layer: pre-installed NETGEAR apps today, with a NETGEAR Store and third-party application support planned. For integrators this means the appliance is not a dead-end single-purpose box — it can host additional services over its life without a hardware swap, protecting the customer's investment as the AV-over-IP ecosystem evolves.

Front Touch Panel and USB-C Console
A 2.99-inch TFT LCD touch panel on the front shows live status and the color of the profiles assigned to each port, so technicians can verify what is happening at the appliance without opening a laptop. A USB-C console port uses the same driver as NETGEAR's AV managed switches — one cable, one driver on the tech's laptop — and a USB-A 3.0 port is available for storage. Small details, but they make on-site work faster during commissioning and troubleshooting, and reduce the risk of the wrong port being touched during a live event.
