The Chief PG3AW is a heavy-duty steel security cage designed to fully enclose ceiling-mounted projectors in high-risk environments such as school gymnasiums, houses of worship, and public spaces. It protects against both theft and accidental or recreational damage while allowing continued operation. The open-air cage design promotes ventilation, and hinged doors provide easy access for lamp and filter maintenance without disturbing the projector's alignment. Suitable for large projectors and compatible with Chief's RPA and RPM series ceiling mounts, the PG3AW is the largest model in Chief's Projector Guard range and is TAA compliant, making it well-suited for government and education procurement.
Theft and Vandal Protection for Public Spaces
The PG3AW encloses the projector in a welded steel cage that locks with security screws and can be further secured with optional padlocks. This makes it the right choice wherever projectors are exposed to the public without close supervision — school gyms, auditoriums, community halls, or houses of worship. Projector theft is a recurring cost for these facilities; a cage that mounts directly onto the existing drop-rod eliminates that risk without requiring a dedicated security infrastructure. The result is a lower total cost of ownership and uninterrupted AV availability for the end user.
Install Without Re-Aligning the Projector
The PG3AW is designed to retrofit onto an existing Chief RPA or RPM projector mount without touching the projector's image alignment. The cage attaches to the 1.5" NPT drop-rod above the mount, so the projector stays exactly where it was set during initial installation. For integrators managing multi-room rollouts or retrofitting existing sites, this means the cage can be added during a maintenance window with no need for re-focusing or keystoning the image afterwards — a significant time saving, especially in facilities with many projectors.
Access for Maintenance Without Removal
Hinged doors on the cage provide direct access to the projector's lamp and filter compartments, so routine consumable replacements can be carried out without removing the security cage or disturbing the projector's position. This is particularly relevant in education environments where projectors run continuously and lamp life is a regular maintenance task. Service visits stay short and straightforward, reducing labour costs and minimising AV downtime for the facility.
Open-Air Design for Safe Heat Dissipation
Despite the full enclosure, the PG3AW uses an open-air cage structure rather than a solid box, allowing the projector's own ventilation system to function normally. Heat can escape freely through the cage mesh, so the projector does not run hotter than it would uncaged. This matters for long-term reliability: projectors that overheat suffer reduced lamp life and are more prone to component failure. Installers do not need to factor in additional ventilation solutions, and end users benefit from normal operating temperatures and the full rated lamp life.
Accommodates Full Projector Adjustment Range
The cage is designed to work together with the projector mount rather than restrict it. It accommodates roll, pitch, and yaw adjustments made at the mount level, and the adjustable front opening can be repositioned to match different lens placements across projector models. This flexibility makes the PG3AW practical across standardised multi-room deployments where different projector models may be in use — or where a projector is replaced with a different model in the future without requiring a different cage.
