High-performance digital signage media player
XT245
The XT245 is BrightSign's flagship Series 5 Standard I/O digital signage media player, engineered for enterprise deployments that demand breathtaking video performance and highly responsive interactive experiences. It decodes single 8K60p and dual 4K60p video with full 10-bit HDR10, HLG and Rec.2020 support, and delivers real-time 3D WebGL motion graphics driven by live data feeds. Built on BrightSignOS — a purpose-built, security-hardened operating system designed exclusively for digital signage — the XT245 targets retail, corporate, transportation, hospitality and public-venue installations where always-on reliability and a low total cost of ownership are non-negotiable. PoE+ connectivity simplifies cabling, and an integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) opens the door to on-device AI applications.

Single 8K and Dual 4K60p Decode
The XT245 houses a video engine capable of decoding a single 8K60p stream or two simultaneous 4K60p streams, all at 10-bit colour depth. In practice, this means a single player can drive a large-format 8K canvas — think immersive museum installations, high-end retail flagship stores, or digital-out-of-home displays — without any external processing hardware. The dual 4K path is equally relevant: it allows one player to feed two independent 4K screens with different content zones at the same time, halving infrastructure and licensing cost on twin-screen kiosks or paired wayfinding displays. Every pixel arrives with full HDR10, HLG and Rec.2020 colour space support, so even demanding HDR master files are rendered as intended — no banding, no tone-mapping compromises.

Real-Time 3D WebGL and Data-Driven HTML5
Beyond video playback, the XT245 hosts a full Chromium-compatible HTML5 engine with hardware-accelerated 3D WebGL and live data visualisation capabilities. This is the core differentiator of the Standard I/O package within the XT5 family: it is positioned specifically for deployments where animated dashboards, real-time stock tickers, wayfinding maps, social media walls or interactive multi-touch infographics need to run alongside video — all without a PC. For operations teams, this means content can be updated server-side via JSON or API feeds and the player renders it live, eliminating the need to re-encode video files for every data change. JavaScript, SVG, CSS animations and WebGL shaders all run natively, making it straightforward to port browser-based creative from an agency directly to the screen.

Integrated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI at the Edge
The XT245 includes a dedicated Neural Processing Unit — a hardware block optimised for running inference workloads locally rather than sending data to the cloud. For digital signage this opens a practical set of use cases: anonymous audience analytics (counting footfall, detecting dwell time, estimating age bracket) that feed back into dynamic content scheduling; object or gesture detection for touch-free interactivity; and anomaly detection for device health monitoring. Critically, all processing stays on-device, which simplifies GDPR compliance for EU deployments since no personal data or video streams need to leave the premises. As BrightSignOS matures, additional NPU-enabled features can be delivered via OS updates, so the hardware investment is not limited to today's use cases.

PoE+ Simplifies Installation and Reduces Cabling
The XT245 supports Power over Ethernet Plus (IEEE 802.3at), meaning a single Cat5e-or-better cable carries both network data and enough power to run the player and connected peripherals. For installations where running a separate 12V power line to the player location is inconvenient or costly — ceiling-mounted displays, under-counter kiosks, thin-column mounting brackets — PoE+ eliminates an entire cable run and avoids the need for a local power outlet. The Gigabit Ethernet port also supports 802.1X authentication and is capable of 10-100-1000 Mbps, ensuring the player fits into enterprise-grade, certificate-authenticated network infrastructures without additional adapters. A 12V-3A locking power connector is also provided as a fallback for environments where PoE+ infrastructure is not available.

BrightSignOS: Purpose-Built Reliability and Security
Rather than running a general-purpose OS with a signage application on top, the XT245 boots BrightSignOS — an operating system written from the ground up for digital signage. The practical difference for operators is significant: automatic fault detection with self-healing protocols restarts content without manual intervention; secure boot and execution of only BrightSign-approved code eliminates the attack surface that Windows or Android devices expose; and long-term OS patching is committed for 5+ years, protecting the hardware investment well beyond the typical refresh cycle. Remote diagnostics and controls via BrightSign Control (included free with every player) let support teams resolve most issues without a site visit. The OS also runs no background processes unrelated to signage, which means consistent frame rates and playback quality even after months of continuous operation — a concrete advantage over PC-based solutions that degrade over time with OS updates, antivirus scans and scheduled reboots.

Free Remote Management with BrightSign Control
Every XT245 ships with access to BrightSign Control, a cloud-based device management service included at no additional cost. It provides real-time player health monitoring, remote reboot and configuration, and integration hooks for 200+ third-party CMS platforms. For multi-site deployments this is a concrete TCO reducer: a network operations team can monitor hundreds of players from a single dashboard, identify any unit that has gone offline or is playing incorrect content, and push a corrective action without dispatching a technician. The paid BrightSign Control Plus tier adds AI-assisted diagnostics, bulk operations, and centralised scheduling — scaling the same interface from a handful of screens to enterprise-wide networks. This open CMS compatibility means operators are never locked into a single content platform: the player can switch CMS vendors without hardware replacement.

GPIO, IR and Flexible Peripheral Control
The XT245 Standard I/O package includes a 12-pin Phoenix GPIO connector with 8 bi-directional GPIO lines, a 3.5mm IR in-out port, and a 3.5mm combo audio output supporting both analogue and S-PDIF digital audio. The GPIO interface is the critical detail for kiosk and interactive installations: it allows the player to read pushbutton inputs, trigger relay outputs, control lighting or vending mechanisms, and interface with custom-built peripheral hardware — without a separate microcontroller. IR input enables the player to accept commands from standard remote controls or IR sensors for audience-triggered content changes. The audio port's S-PDIF capability means it can pass high-quality digital audio directly to a connected AV receiver or amplifier without quality loss from digital-to-analogue conversion. An M.2 E Key slot for an optional WiFi-Bluetooth module and an M.2 PCIe slot for an optional NVMe SSD round out the expandability picture.

5-Year Warranty and Multi-Country Regulatory Approvals
From 1 January 2025, all newly purchased and registered Series 5 players (including the XT245) carry a 5-year parts-and-labor warranty — industry-leading for a media player in this class. Players linked to an active BrightSign Control or BrightSign Author Plus account are automatically enrolled; others can register online. For integrators writing service contracts or SLAs, a 5-year hardware warranty dramatically reduces risk pricing and distinguishes the proposal from competitors offering 1- or 2-year coverage. Multi-country power and regulatory approvals are included as standard, which simplifies procurement for cross-border rollouts — no separate market-specific SKUs or certification submissions are required.
