The Simply45® S45-1600P is a Cat6 unshielded pass-through RJ45 modular plug designed for professional low-voltage installers and structured cabling contractors. Part of the ProSeries line, it introduces the patented Cap45® isolation cap that eliminates the electrical shorting risk associated with exposed wire ends in standard pass-through plugs — making it the go-to choice for commercial and certified system terminations. Cap45® Isolation Cap Prevents Shorting
Pass-through RJ45 plugs leave wire ends protruding from the front of the connector after crimping — a known risk in commercial installations where improperly trimmed wires or slightly out-of-spec device sockets can cause electrical shorts. The S45-1600P's patented Cap45® (Patent 10,811,831 B1) is a snap-on isolation cap that covers those exposed ends immediately after termination. It is fast to apply, fits all compliant RJ45 sockets without impeding connectivity, and fully eliminates the shorting risk. For installers delivering certified channel performance, this is critical: a single shorted plug in a patch field or behind a wall plate can introduce hard-to-trace link failures. 3-Prong Gold Pins for Reliable Electrical Contact
Most pass-through RJ45 modular plugs use a 2-prong pin design that contacts each copper conductor at only two points. The S45-1600P uses a 3-prong pin that bites into the conductor at three points simultaneously, both improving the electrical connection and physically gripping the wire more firmly. All nine contact pins are plated with 50 microns of true 24-carat gold over 100µ nickel — a specification that resists corrosion and maintains low contact resistance across the plug's lifetime. In PoE and PoH environments, where elevated current flows through the same contacts, lower resistance directly translates to less heat build-up and more stable power delivery to connected devices. This makes the S45-1600P especially well-suited to IP cameras, VoIP handsets, access-control readers and any device relying on PoE.
Improved NEXT via Deep Cable Insertion
Near-end crosstalk (NEXT) is one of the hardest performance parameters to satisfy in a Cat6 channel because it is critically sensitive to the length of untwisted wire pairs inside the plug. The S45-1600P's internal geometry is engineered to allow the LAN cable to be inserted deeper into the plug body than typical designs, minimising the untwisted section of each pair right up to the crimp point. This directly reduces NEXT and is one reason the plug has passed independent third-party channel certification testing with multiple Cat6 cable brands. For installations requiring certified Cat6 channel performance — e.g. open-plan offices, data centres or AV-over-IP headend rooms — this is a concrete engineering advantage rather than a marketing claim.
10GBaseT & HDBaseT Approved
The S45-1600P meets ANSI/TIA 568.2-D performance for both Cat6 (Class E) and Cat6a (Class Ea), and has received HDBaseT Association approval. In practice this means a technician can use the same plug family for standard GbE data drops, 10-Gigabit backbone connections, and HDBaseT AV distribution runs — all without switching to a different connector. PoE and PoH compatibility is also confirmed, supporting the full IEEE 802.3bt PoE power budget when correctly terminated.
