SCP 10G-FPU

The SCP 10G-FPU is a pro-grade unshielded RJ45 field plug engineered for 10GBaseT and HDBaseT AV-over-IP terminations on Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A cables. Designed for AV and IT installers who need a fast, reliable, tool-free solution, it uses a single-piece design with an integrated load bar that correctly positions all eight conductors before termination — eliminating the most common cause of failed or marginal RJ45 connections. Its unshielded construction makes it the correct choice for HDBaseT floating-power systems where a shielded connector would introduce ground loops. Unshielded Design Prevents Ground Loops

Unlike its shielded sibling (10G-FP), the 10G-FPU intentionally omits the metallic shield. In HDBaseT AV distribution systems — where the PoE power rail floats relative to chassis ground — using a fully shielded plug at the device end (typically behind a TV or display where an HDMI balun is connected) can create a ground loop that causes audible hum or buzzing on the audio output. Replacing just that one termination with a 10G-FPU breaks the loop while keeping the full 10G electrical performance of the link intact. This is a targeted, low-cost fix that avoids the need to re-cable or add isolation transformers.

Toolless 1-Piece Design — No Crimper Needed

The 10G-FPU uses a single-body construction with a built-in load bar that locks all eight conductors into the correct T568A or T568B positions before the termination cap is pressed home. No crimp tool is required — only hand pressure — which means installers can terminate a connection anywhere on site without carrying or powering a dedicated crimper. The load bar also guarantees wire-pair geometry is maintained, directly improving the connector's insertion loss and crosstalk performance. The datasheet notes this provides '100% accuracy for all 8 wires being terminated properly every time', making it particularly valuable for high-conductor-count patch panel runs where a single miswire is hard to diagnose after a ceiling tile goes back up.

The 10G-FPU accepts solid conductors from 22 to 26 AWG and stranded conductors from 23 to 27 AWG, covering the full range of Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A bulk cable gauges found in the field. The strain relief boot is trimmable to fit different jacket diameters, and the clear housing lets the installer visually confirm pin seating before pressing the cap. It also fits inside Neutrik connector shells, giving integrators the option to use locking or decorative housings on the same termination without sourcing a separate plug body. Printed circuit board contact geometry (rather than stamped contacts) is cited by SCP as contributing to lower insertion loss versus conventional connectors.
